Ethernet has a practical 100-metre channel limit under standard conditions, and voltage drop can become significant for PoE at high power. Water entry, poor terminations and ground-potential differences can also cause intermittent faults or equipment damage. Outdoor grounding and lightning protection should be designed for the site by a competent installer; simply adding a metal enclosure does not solve the risk.
